[  WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE HERE ]

TREKKING AND GUIDED WALKS through breath-taking mountain countryside where the beauty of the natural landscape and the medieval splendour of villages and churches sett each other off.

MOUNTAIN BIKE tours along gentle routes or riverside tracks, or more arduous journeys over undulating grassy mountain slopes.

On HORSEBACK along ridges overlooking unspoiled valleys and country villages which remain unaltered from time immemorial.

A KITEFLYING paradise on the verdant mountain top plain of Monte Petrano. This favourite meeting place for enthusiasts provides a natural grandstand where you can enjoy staggering 360 degree views across the vast panorama of the Apennine range and down as far as the distant Adriatic Sea, which is visible on clear days.

The countryside is rich in so many other natural treasures for those who enjoy the pleasures of nature. You can feast your eyes on the carpets of mountain FLOWERS or go BIRDWATCHING in an area rich in exotic species. MUSHROOMS AND TRUFFLES also abound (but can be hunted only by licence holders authorised by the area's Comunità Montana Authority).

A quite different type of culture is offered by THEATRE SEASONS throughout the year. First rate opera and theatre performances can be seen in Cagli's splendid 19th Century Municipal Theatre and in various courtyards around the city, as well as in the surrounding towns. Well known artists come to here to Cagli to rehearse and give their debut performances before setting off on tour.

As well as theatre, Cagli is also a city rich in ART, both ancient and modern. Its heritage spans a vast period of time, from the construction of the monumental Mallio Bridge in early Roman times and the creation of the early geometrical layout of the city's streets, lined with noble palaces and churches, to the 15th Century TORRIONE, designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, which now houses the CENTRO SCULTURA CONTEMPORANEA, a museum of contemporary sculptures by artists of international repute, including Cagli's own ELISEO MATTIACCI.

At the heart of the city lies the main square, PIAZZA MATTEOTTI, where city folk meet to discuss business or exchange local news and gossip. In the evening it becomes the hub of Cagli's busy social life until well into the early hours, enlivened by music from the bars and concerts during the summer months for young and old alike.
